Nutritional Advice for Sports and Exercise
Importance of Hydration
Maintenance of our hydration levels is important to aid our recovery, as insufficient levels can hinder our ability to recover from a injury.
Aims: to flush out the toxins, transport nutrients into the cells, helps regulate body temperature / pH balance, lubricates joints and reduce the risk of cramps.
Tips To Stay Hydrated
Many of our clients mention they don’t like to drink water as it is not a naturally flavourful beverage. Therefore the following recipe can improve the taste which helps to elevate hydration levels.
Adding fruit into your water (e.g. lemons/limes/cucumbers/oranges) or adding frozen ice cubes which contain fruit in.
Try and avoid energy drinks that have added sugars/dyes/artificial ingredients. You can simply refresh and replenish with the homemade electrolyte drink linked above.
Signs of electrolyte depletion include:
- Nausea
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Low Blood Pressure
- Muscle Cramping
